If a recent pet food experiment is successful, maybe you’ll see bug-flavored dog food coming to a pet store near you. RootLab, a Purina startup, is testing new and unusual sustainable pet food ingredients like crickets and Asian carp, an invasive fish species. Such ingredients may sound unappetizing, but they are part of an effort to discover untapped nutritious pet food ingredients that won’t adversely affect the environment.
