One of my favorite traditions as the year draws to a close is picking out my new calendar! In the Chinese Zodiac, 2018 is the year of the dog — which for me is going to be an extra excuse to pick a dog-themed calendar for next year! The Chinese Horoscope 2018 prediction for next year says, “this year of the Brown Earth Dog is going to be a good year in all respects, but it will also be an exhausting year. You will be happy yet frustrated, rested yet tired, cheerful yet dull!” Sounds like life with a new puppy in the house! Here are some of the best dog calendars to welcome 2018:

1. Pinups For Pitbulls

Pinups for Pitbulls calendar.

As its site says, “The Pinups for Pitbulls Team is not just another group of pretty faces. We are animal lovers, advocates, educators, and a force to be reckoned with.” This women-owned organization has shifted the face of Pit Bull rescue, and every calendar sold goes to support their innovative rescue work. 2018 Pinups for Pitbulls Calendar ($25). pinupsforpitbulls.com

2. Dogs of the World

Dogs of the World.

Illustrator Lili Chin is one of my favorite dog artists. Her work, which often illustrates canine behavior, dog bite prevention, and how to keep reactive dogs below threshold, benefits Boston Terrier rescue. This calendar is adorable and educational, spotlighting the national origins of different dog breeds. It would be perfect in a doggie day care, vet office, training facility — or just in your home. 3. Pooping Pooches

Pooping Pooches.

What’s better way to laugh than by looking up from your desk and seeing dogs squatting in a variety of scenic locations? It’s calming in a strange way, almost like a very real representation of walking your own dog instead of sitting in your office. Plus, one dollar of every calendar is donated to the Maui Humane Society to support homeless animals. 2018 Pooping Pooches Dog Calendar ($14.99). 4. Pug Yoga

Pugs and yoga? Strange and adorable. This calendar features photos from iconic Los Angeles destinations and pugs “helping” people do yoga! This is an adorable calendar to inspire your New Year’s mindfulness resolutions, and a portion of the sales from the calendars benefit Pug Nation Rescue. 5. Dogs in a Photo Booth

Shelter Dogs in a Photo Booth.

I wish there were more dog-friendly photo booths! Taking pictures of my dogs in photo booths is on my bucket list. I haven’t figured out how to do it yet, so here’s the next best thing — cute shelter dogs in photo booths! Each page includes the adoption story of the dog featured, and all the models were adopted through the Humane Society of Utah. Shelter Dogs in a Photo Booth 2018 Calendar ($10.39). target.com

6. Underwater Puppies

I love Seth Casteel’s iconic underwater dog photography. This calendar is funny, playful, and just radiates the joy of dogs in water. All the pictures from this calendar remind me of fun summer adventures with my dogs. This is a great calendar, especially for the long, dark and cold winter months! Sometimes, we all need a little reminder about the important things in life. This calendar offers tender reflections on the ways dogs can help us to live better and more fulfilled lives. Each month includes a picture of an adorable dog with an inspirational message, like the importance of sharing adventures, and to keep looking forward. What Dogs Teach Us Wall Calendar ($14.99). calendars.com

My dogs and I reviewed the Maggie Modena dog backpack/harness a couple of years ago,  so I was thrilled to see this fabulous company putting out a 2018 calendar. This is a really cute calendar featuring mostly little dogs. 2018 Ridiculous Dogs Calendar ($19.95). shop.maggiemodena.com
