There are so many glossy national and regional dog magazines these days,at least one was bound toescapethe notice of even hardcore media hounds. If you live in or close to Florida, or you’reheaded that waywith your dog in tow, you’ll want to know about The New Barker, which bills itself as “Florida’s Top Dog Lifestyle Magazine.”
Now in its sixth year of publishing, The New Barker is published quarterly and claims to reach more than 40,000 dog lovers with dispatches on Florida’s “hip canine culture,” including the low-down on where to dine, play, stay, and otherwise have fun with your dog in the SunshineState.
Each cover features a colorful portrait of a dog, painted by a Florida artist.
More important, The New Barker has supported rescue groups and shelters across Florida with coverage and in-kind contributions exceeding $145,000. In 2010, the magazine contributed in-kind donations of $29,700 to promote Florida rescue organizations.
An annualsubscription is $16 for four issues, and makes a thoughtful gift for frequent-flying, Florida-bound Dogsters.
