Adora the Pit Bull Mix Holds No Grudges for Her Troubled Past

Adora was pregnant again. The puppies came and went so frequently she no longer knew how many litters it had been that year — or that lifetime. At the tender age of four, her body had been disfigured by her relentless pregnancies.

Then, on the day before New Year’s 2012, Adora was surrendered to the Western PA Human Society, her former owners citing a move to a dog-unfriendly location as the reason. However, Adora’s belly and itchy, red, infected skin told another story — to her former owners, she was just another object and she had outlived her usefulness.

We know a better life is possible, but for Adora, it was the only life she’d had. With the help of shelter workers and vets, Adora quickly learned that there is more to life than cruelty. She endeared herself to the Western PA Human Society Outreach Coordinator, Sarah Shivley, who saw Adora’s potential as a therapy dog. Adora found her forever home with Shivley in April 2012. Just a few months later, Adora became a Certified Therapy Dog.

Anyone else in Adora’s position might have held a grudge toward the humans who used and abandoned her, but Adora welcomes everyone with a wagging tail and kisses. That feat alone makes her our Monday Miracle.

Adora now works to help heal her human friends while changing perceptions about Pit Bull-type dogs. She just recently underwent surgery to remove a mast cell, but according to her Facebook page, Adora is doing well.
