April 22: Premiere of California Landslide: A Dog’s True Story

The documentary “California Landslide: A Dog’s True Story” premiers on Earth Day, April 22, 2020.

A new documentary short film produced by Big Sur residents Dana Richardson and Sarah Zentz shares the true story of a devoted dog and two women who develop an unbreakable bond as they are forced to flee their home due to the May 2017 landslide that buried the Pacific Coast Highway in Big Sur with more than 1 million tons of dirt and rock. Told through the perspective of their dog Anika, a Vizsla, whose playful personality lightens the mood and offers an approachable perspective to the impacts of climate change in California. The subjects’ human-animal bond was instrumental in their recovery process from the emotional trauma of the disaster. The short film also includes aerial footage of the catastrophic landslide and the rebuilding process of Highway 1 that has never been seen before. Sarah says, “This documentary is timely because scientists warn millions of people will be displaced every year in the next two decades unless humans act now. The impact of natural disasters on nature, animals, and humans is unprecedented and we are all in this climate crisis together.”

Dana adds, “Our hope is that our story will remind people in times of crisis whether it is a natural disaster, an environmental emergency, or a global pandemic, it is our compassion and love towards one another that will make us strong and guide us towards redemption.” The film premieres online on Earth Day for free streaming in perpetuity on Dana & Sara Films YouTube channel. The official trailer can be viewed here.
