On my recent voyage to Panama, I had the pleasure oftraveling with Delta Airlines. After I finished the book I’d brought along, I reached into the seat pocket ahead of me for more reading material — and was very glad to seethe cover story inthis month’s Sky magazine:a sit-down-stay with rocker Lenny Kravitz.
The magazine paid a visit to Kravitzat his home in the Bahamas. Now, in-flight magazines are supposed to deliver a transporting experience, but they don’t always succeed. Some just sort of taxi along an uneventful editorial runway, but Sky actually soars. Not only arethe magazine’s photographs (by Aaron Warkov) spectacular, but the message of the cover story is one Dogsters can trulyappreciate: Beside every good rock star is a loyal dog.
For proof, check out the cover’sfetching photo of Kravitz with his brindle dog, Leroy. Inside, there are more portraits of Kravitz with and without his best friend; meanwhile, the online version of the story features a glorious gallery of K9 beauty shots, including candids and outtakes from the shoot — like the charming snapshot of Leroy chilling in a chair, below— that fans of brindle breeds will particularly appreciate. (There’s nothingquite like a brindle dog, is there, Dogsters? Please leave a comment if you are now, or have ever been, besotted by a brindle.)
Leroy’s full name is Leroy Brown, after the famous Jim Croce song “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.” But unlike the Leroy of song fame, who’s characterized as “meaner than a junkyarddog,”there’s nothing bad about this sweet K9. Lovable Leroy Brown Kravitz is a sweetheart, as you’ll see in this short YouTube videomade byhis multitalented human.
Leroy, aka Mr. Leroy, happens to be a species of mutt known in the Bahamas as a “potcake.”Straydogs on the islands earned their colorful handle by demonstrating due diligence at licking pots and pans clean as only hungry mutts can.
So, not only is Lenny Kravitz a Dogster, he’s also doing his part to end K9 homelessness by adopting a local muttand proudly showing him off for all to see. Kudos to Sky magazine for being so Dogster-friendly. If travelwith Delta isn’t in your plans this month, check out the magazine online.
And if you’d like to adopt a potcake of your own, there are many resources that would love to help you connect with a charismatic K9 Bahamian. Visit them here, here, here, here, and here. Andtell themLenny Kravitz sent you!
