We know that dogs are inspiring. Besides making us feel good and looking good doing it, dogs symbolize trust, honesty, friendliness, and loyalty. For a company branding itself, a dog in the logo can be a great way to convey a sense of trust.

One of the most famous dog logos is RCA’s iconic dog listening to a gramophone. The logo was derived from a painting of Nipper the dog listening to a phonograph back in 1895. No one knows what breed Nipper was, but it’s assumed he was some kind of terrier. The use of a dog in conjunction with sound recording and playback symbolized the faithfulness of the quality, as if listening to the original. After all, this was when the idea of listening to recorded music was new and outrageous! Nipper helped persuade people that listening to a recording was as good as hearing a live performance … and it must have worked, seeing that’s how most of us listen to music these days!

Here are some more ideas for dogs in design.

What other famous dog logos can you think of? Which one is your favorite?
