We’ve covered DogTV a couple of times before, but days into its nationwide DirectTV launch, we have to ask: Does your dog like it?
If you have DirectTV and haven’t tried DogTV yet, turn to channel 354. It’s free until Aug. 17 (and then is available for $4.99 a month). The channel is also available for streaming on computers and devices for $9.99 a month.
As you might know, the channel is being sold as “the ideal babysitter for ‘home alone’ dogs.” It features “scientifically developed” custom-made programming for canines, focusing on relaxation, stimulation, and exposure. Here’s how DogTV breaks down the different areas:
Relaxation: “Content that is designed to relax the dog, reduce stress level,s and keep him calm through soothing music, sounds, and visuals.”
Stimulation: “Active camera movements, exciting animations, and moving objects and animals with appropriate sounds and frequencies help encourage dogs’ playfulness, even when home alone.”
Exposure: “Using the most advanced veterinary science, special sounds and visuals help comfort and habituate dogs by exposing them to different day-to-day stimuli.”
The content has all been created to for dogs’ eyes and ears.
“The colors on the screen, the brightness level, contrast, camera angles, and the sounds and music were adjusted to fit your dog’s hearing and seeing abilities,” according to the website. “It may seem odd to you, but it’s perfectly normal for your dog!”
