October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. So if you’ve been considering bringing a dog into your life (ahem, Vicky Walker, we’re looking at you), this might be the time to do your research, head to your local shelter or contact a foster home, make an appointment with a vet, and open your heart to a companion who will love you unconditionally.

You might recall the Bill Foundation from when it helped in the rescue of Asha Attie, the pregnant Shih Tzu dumped at a shelter; she had unkempt fur so mangled and matted it didn’t allow her puppies to nurse. That story has a happy ending, but for many homeless dogs languishing in shelters, their time is running out.

So the Bill Foundation steps in again. The latest video from the organization features 15 dog rescues that occurred in the span of 15 minutes. Volunteers traveled to a crowded shelter to rescue a mama Rottweiler and her puppies about to be put down. On the way, they spotted another dog tied up and abandoned outside — and they couldn’t pass the dog by. Once at the shelter, they found not one, but two litters in trouble. Well, if you’ve already got eight puppies, what’s a few more? The Bill Foundation agreed to take them all into its foster program.

Three weeks later, everyone is happy and healthy in foster care, awaiting their forever homes. Will October be the month that happens?
