When it comes to celebrity Internet dogs, Harlow, Indiana, and Reese are right up there with the world’s most popular pups. Their shared Instagram account brims with warm and often humorous pictures of the trio and has earned them a loyal following of fans.

In celebration of Harlow & Indiana (and Reese), a new book that tells their story, we talked to their human Brittni Vega about these terrific canines from Salt Lake City, Utah.

These three dogs are genuine superstars of the Instagram circuit, with a following of nearly a million worldwide fans. When it comes to explaining their appeal, Brittni (who authored the new book with her husband, Jeff) says, “Harlow, Indiana, and Reese have a very genuine friendship, and I hope that people can recognize that in the pictures we share.”

With Harlow, Indiana, and Reese all being different sizes, they often end up posing in endearingly comical ways. As Brittni explains, “I think that people love the dynamic: Harlow is much bigger than Indiana and Reese yet she is so sweet-tempered and loving. The little dogs rule the house, and Harlow is happy to sit back and let them!”

Baby Reese was the latest addition to the bunch — and it’s a role that Brittni says she lives up to: “Reese is very sweet and stays out of trouble. She loves to play with Indiana and cuddle up with Harlow. In return, Harlow and Indiana are very protective of Reese — they have been great puppy-sitters!”

Harlow and Indiana took different approaches to integrating Reese into the family. “Harlow knew the drill since she had been through it a year before with Indiana,” says Brittni. “She was very gentle and affectionate with Reese, and they bonded almost immediately. Before we knew it, Reese was crawling all over Harlow!”

When it came to Indiana, though, things were a little trickier. “She was used to being the center of attention, and so she was very jealous for the first few weeks,” recalls Brittni. “She pretended like Reese didn’t exist — well, until she realized how fun she was to play with. They are all three inseparable now.”

Living up to their inseparable reputation, Brittni says that Indiana, Harlow, and Reese literally spend “all day, every day” together, whether napping or frolicking. “Indiana and Reese play nonstop and at times they probably drive Harlow crazy,” she explains, “but they definitely entertain each other. I don’t know what they would do without one another.”

The book Harlow & Indiana (And Reese) tells the tale of this trio of pooches. But what would happen if the stars of the story could turn their paws to writing fiction?

Well, it seems that Harlow and Reese would tap into their “pretty crazy imaginations” and “write about dogs taking over the world and driving cars and running for president!”

As for Indiana? “She would probably stick to nonfiction and write an instruction manual on how to get the squeaker out of her toys!”

Harlow & Indiana (and Reese) is in stores now via Penguin Random House.
