Natura’s widespread dog food recall, which started last month, is turning into an epic saga — we now have a huge second update, coming in the wake of its April 2 update.
Now, the recall includes all dry dog and cat foods and treats with expiration dates prior to and including March 24, 2013. The recall includes the brands California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Innova, and Karma. The products are being recalled because they might be contaminated with salmonella.
Natura canned products and Mother Nature biscuits remain unaffected.
Previously, the recalls were limited to certain products and certain production dates, but this update significantly expands the scope of the recall.
According to the company, “Your pet’s health and safety are our No. 1 priority. We are taking all actions necessary to ensure that our products meet … your expectations and ours. Our Fremont plant has been focused on quality enhancements and is now shipping new product to stores that will be on shelves soon.”
If you have questions, contact the company on the web or by calling (800) 224-6123. You can also download a PDF on the site to request replacement products.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, “pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.”
