Pet Center Inc. is voluntarily recalling its three-ounce bag of Lamb Crunchys dog treats because of salmonella fears, according to the company, which is based in Los Angeles.
The recall affects only three-ounce bags with UPC number 727348200038 and date code 122015. The bags involved in the recall were sent to California, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Washington, and they ended up with these distributors: Gelson’s Market, General Pet, Nor-Sky Pet Supply, and Independent Pet.
Lamb Crunchys are made from lamb lungs, which are dehydrated slowly, according to the company. No illnesses have been reported. The product was recalled after salmonella was detected by the Colorado’s Department of Agriculture in a random sample.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, “pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.”
Consumers with affected products can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For more information, contact the company at (800) 390-0575. Currently, news of the recall does not appear on Pet Center’s website or Facebook page.
