As a certifiable health nut, I’m pretty set in the regimen of supplements that my dogs and I follow — which includes coconut oil, curcumin, and cinnamon — so it’s not every day I add something new to our existing program. But when I learned about super blue green algae — the only superfood that contains all 21 amino acids, and one of nature’s most nutritious organisms — I had to try it.

Super blue green algae is important for protecting regenerative stem cells — the body’s own microscopic mechanics — from harmful free radicals. And as far as I and my beloved dogs are concerned, stem cells are very well worth investing in.

After reading testimonials from dog lovers who swear by this stuff, I immediately ordered some supplements for myself and my pack. In fact, I wondered what had taken me so long to get in the swim.

I selected APA Blend by Simplexity Health because it combines microalgae with probiotics and antioxidant-rich wheat sprouts. It’s formulated by Linda Nelson Brill to help balance your internal ecosystem by populating it with beneficial bacteria and digestive enzymes. This promised to make supplementing my dogs more convenient, because I wouldn’t need a separate probiotic, so I pounced. (For sweet senior dogs, there’s also APA Blend Plus with glucosamine — but my current pack members are all young’uns, so we’re not needing that yet.) Also, Simplexity doesn’t add any potentially harmful ingredients such as the controversial magnesium stearate.

My German Shepherd, Desiree, has a digestive system almost as delicate as my own, plus a tendency to develop itchy skin despite my persistent efforts to prevent this. She was first in line to receive a healing, heaping helping of this potent powder sprinkled over her food bowl — and, I’m pleased to report, she happily inhaled the lot.

I expect great things from super blue green algae, and I’ll keep you posted on our progress as my pack and I attempt to boost our cellular health with it.
