You know that thing where you come home from work or the grocery store or going to the coffee shop and something is … amiss? And that something is your dog? Because she doesn’t greet you at the front door with her tail wagging and tongue lolling like she usually does?
And then you do that thing where you call her name — “Peaches — oh, Peaches, where aaare you?” — and Peaches appears, head drooping, avoiding your eyes, and looking awfully guilty? And you don’t even ask her, “Peaches, what have you been doing?” because you already knew the minute you walked in the door that you’d be cleaning up some sort of mess?
Yeah, that thing.
Dogs just aren’t good at surprises. I was in Vegas last weekend and as I watched my friend play poker, I realized I would lose so hard because, like dogs, I have a crummy poker face.
