How Sick Is This? Someone Tied Down a Dog in a Creek So She Would Drown at High Tide

The sickly, skinny Lab had been abused for years, authorities say. Luckily, she was found in time.

An emaciated Labrador Retriever with a giant untreated tumor on her foot was found tied to a rock at Neshaminy Creek in Bristol Township, Pa., as the tide rose around her. The abused dog was motionless. If it hadn’t been for a couple out on a walk, she would have drowned.

“The leash was actually hooked to a stone in the ground,” said Wyatt Erb, who happened on the dog while out with his wife. “It’s not something the dog could have done by itself.”

After taking a quick photograph to document the abuse, Erb saved the dog and called police, who determined that the dog is roughly 8 years old and has suffered years of abuse. She’s been starved, she has eye infections, and there’s the giant tumor on her foot.

“She’s glad to be fed,” Sgt. Thomas Gaffney of the Bristol Police Department told NBC10. “Anything that you do for her she seems to appreciate. I think she notices a difference.”

Police are searching for her owner, and they say that if that person has a history of animal abuse, he or she could go to jail. Otherwise, Gaffing believes it will just result in a fine.

“At some point she was somebody’s pet. She provided somebody with love, and then this is the end result? It’s ridiculous,” he said.

The dog is being transferred to the Bucks County SPCA, which is busy spreading the word to get her adopted to a good home via its Facebook page. The heartbreaking case has stirred up a lot of media interest.

Despite not having the dog yet, Bucks County SPCA has already given her a name — Brooke — and is accepting donations for her care. Once the dog has arrived at the shelter and been assessed, the facility will post an update. We hope she’ll get the home she deserves.
