Billie was aggressive to everyone but the woman who put him in a calendar that helps dog rescue.

Billie Valentine the Chihuahua found himself scared and alone in a shelter in Texas after Hurricane Katrina. Considering all he’d been through, it was no surprise that Billie Valentine regarded everyone with malice and distrust, huddled in a corner of his cage, growling and barking viciously at anyone who dared approach him. Billie seemed like a lost cause, and his future looked dim.

That’s until one very special human friend managed to break through to Billie. She approached Billie’s cage, and he regarded her without aggression. Shelter workers looked on in amazement, remarking on how exceptional the moment was. Against all odds, Billie found himself a forever home.

It turns out that Billie Valentine was just mad that the shelter wasn’t up to the star treatment he’d grown accustomed to! His new human family discovered that Billie loves to be in front of a camera, and with this in mind, they quickly furnished the dog’s wardrobe with a multitude of costumes. How could a little tornado-thrown dog who once snapped at strangers yield to costumes and photo shoots?

Billie’s new demeanor was such a contrast to his old one that his new human friend sent pictures to the shelter as evidence that Billie was a changed dog. They took such delight in Billie’s happiness that the Chihuahua realized his life’s work: To make humans smile and to help those less fortunate than he. And he would do so with a calendar.

If part of his mission is to bring happiness to people, he should consider it mission accomplished. These are my favorite seven looks from Billie Valentine:

1. Me running errands on a Sunday

(Except I wouldn’t drink Coors — ewww.)

2. A cupcake

Trying not to eat him … (Cupcakes are my favorite food.)

3. This

I don’t know what this is, but I love it.

4. Fabulous as fluff

King of fab!

5. A RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant

Cat poop on your gender conventions.

6. The new sheriff in town

Stick ’em up!

7. A street punk

Pretty jealous of that edgy collar and vest, to be honest.
