One of the most painful realities of sharing your life with a dog is the knowledge that her life is short. You will almost certainly outlive her. You will probably watch her grow, age, and die. It is a bittersweet truth. As author Agnes Sligh Turnbull once said, the brevity of dogs’ lives is “their only fault.”
And dogs don’t know it. When your dog rouses you from bed eager for her morning walk, she doesn’t know just how finite her days are. She knows only that the sun is shining and that she loves you and that there’s a world outside full of new smells. Dogs remind us to be present. And, because their lives are short, they remind us to live every moment as if it were the last.
Keith Hopkin brought us the exuberant Dogs in Cars videos and then the adorable Puppy Pile, and now he’s back with a far more poignant piece with the help of a creative grant from Petcurean. Savour Every Moment explores the present beauty of dogs (and cats) with lush photography and a moving soundtrack. We dare you to watch this without shedding a tear and holding your pet friend close.
Savour Every Moment describes the wisdom of animals simply and elegantly. If our dogs could speak our language, they would remind us that, “When you’re happy, don’t forget to tell your face. Napping is beauty sleep for the soul. Eat like nobody’s watching.”
