Hey, Dogster readers, listen up … I was over at Catster and I heard those felines talking some smack! They were saying stuff like, “Dogs may be man’s best friend, but we’ve got man a short leash. Everyone knows cats are better than dogs — even if we do poop in a box and chase invisible moths.”
And then I noticed them all gathered around a computer and laughing. And what were they were watching? A news report about a dog who got caught in a tree … and the fire department had to come rescue the hapless hound! The cats said, “Hey! It’s not one of us today!” Can you believe it? The nerve of those cats! How many cats have gotten stuck in trees for every dog? Like, a thousand, right? What good is climbing up a tree if you can’t climb back down?
The poor tree-bound dog is a Wheaton Terrier named Guinness, who became stuck when he chased a raccoon up into the boughs of the giant Oak. The raccoon got away, but when it was time to get back down, Guinness found himself stuck. His family called firefighters, who used a 36 foot ladder to rescue the dog.
Menlo Park Fire Protection District Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman didn’t believe the call at first, saying he’s heard of several cats stuck in trees, but never a dog.
Laugh it up, kitties, cause when was the last time you saw a cat do this?
