Virtual veterinary service OneVet recently surveyed over 2,100 U.S. dog owners and learned that although the national average amount of dog walks is 7.17 times a week, trends in dog walking habits vary from state to state.

The top five states for most and least walks per week are:

Most Walks per Week

Alabama 10.45

New York 10.14

Colorado 9.08

Florida 8.98

Illinois 8.90

Fewest Walks per Week

Oklahoma 3.67

Vermont 4.25

Ohio 4.71

Minnesota 4.75

Texas 4.78

  2. I’m not sure if such a small sample could really give accurate data on dog walking per state. And under what criteria were the participants selected. We’re the numbers from each state the same? And we’re the same types of dogs used? For example a smaller lap dog needs less walking than a larger active breed.

  3. There is a slackness of a lot of things in the states of the USA mentioned as low in dog walks per day and so the figfures are telling.
    In Germany there is a strong possibility that laws will be brought in to make compulsory with dog owning, two dog walks per day for adult, able dogs amounting to no less than an hour.

    If this was introduced in to the USA it would help eliminate the many owners who are poor with management and care of dogs.
