Do you remember Duncan Lou Who? Back in March, Angela Lutz wrote about the two-legged Boxer in our Dogster Heroes series. Duncan has had admirers for a while, but now he’s become a star. The people behind the GoPro portable camera have posted a series of mini-documentaries on YouTube to show off what their gear can do, and one of them is all about Duncan.

“He has no idea that he doesn’t have two back legs, and we don’t plan to tell him,” says his owner, Amanda Giese. At nine months old, not only does Duncan seem to be unaware of his missing limbs, but he’s perfectly content without them. As you can see from the documentary, he runs, chases, and explores just as enthusiastically as any other dog his age.

There have been a couple of attempts to fit Duncan with a wheelchair, but he wasn’t having it: “He did have two wheelchairs,” Giese says. “We ended up donating those wheelchairs to other dogs in need, because Duncan refused to use them.”

In addition to being Duncan’s owner, Giese is also the founder of Panda Paws Rescue, which specializes in finding homes for the animals that so often go without homes — those that are injured or sick, or suffer from some kind of congenital birth defect. Duncan was one of the latter. A supporter who was visiting family in Colorado saw him next door, just after being born.

“They contacted us and asked if we would take Duncan, and of course we did,” Giese says. “We hadn’t even seen him, didn’t know what he was looking like.”

Duncan had been born with a deformed pelvis and fused leg bones. When he got to Washington, Panda Paws’ vet said that they had two options: Put him to sleep, or have his legs amputated. Naturally, they chose the latter, and Duncan has never looked back. The two legs in front seem to serve him very well. In the documentary, you can even see Giese struggling to match him in a race.

Our compliments to Amanda Giese for helping Duncan have such a happy life when so many would have left him behind, and to GoPro for showing his story.
