With Valentine’s Day coming up this weekend, I got to pondering one of the big questions of our time: How exactly would dogs go about celebrating a holiday that’s been turned into little more than a grand festival of commercialization?

Why, they would snuggle up to their favorite pooch and attempt to sneak in a quick kiss while thinking of classic lines from their favorite 1980s power ballads, right? Unsure about the idea? Not completely convinced of the conceit? Let this roundup of Instagram pictures be your conclusive proof.

“I’ll be there for you/ These five words I swear to you/ When you breathe I want to be the air for you/ I’ll be there for you.”

“Just a small town girl living in a lonely world/ She took the midnight train going anywhere/ Just a city boy born and raised in South Detroit/ He took the midnight train going anywhere.”

“Every rose has its thorn/ Just like every night has its dawn/ Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song.”

“Once upon a time I was falling in love/ But now I’m only falling apart/ There’s nothing I can do — a total eclipse of the heart.”

“I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me/ I wanna feel what love is, I know you can show me.”

“I’m gonna tell you right away, I can’t wait another day, Amanda/ I’m gonna say it like a man, and make you understand, Amanda/ I love you.”

“‘Till now I always got by on my own/ I never really cared until I met you/ And now it chills me to the bone/ How do I get you alone? How do I get you alone? How do I get you alone? How do I get you alone? Alone, alone … “
