When 11-year-old Alexandra Bonilla’s mother died last year of kidney disease, her little white poodle helped her get through the terrible loss. The dog has been a comfort to the girl since.

But now her beloved source of comfort is gone without a trace, without even an explanation, according to news reports. The last time she saw the dog was about three weeks ago, when she and her grandmother brought Gigo to a Houston, Texas, groomer. They didn’t get a phone call from the groomer, so they went back to check on the dog, the girl’s father, Salvador Bonilla, told KTRK. “… they said maybe it’s here somewhere. We don’t know where it is,” he said.

(A point of clarification: They went back late that day. Some readers have thought they took three weeks to check on the dog. The “three weeks” part is just how long it has taken news organizations to learn of the story.)

Bonilla says the groomer didn’t offer any explanations. Worse yet, she didn’t offer any apologies.

“They were not feeling sorry,” he said.

The TV station reports that they called the grooming shop, Jobpops, and went there and rang the door bell. “We were ignored by an older woman in green who walked towards the back inside the shop once she saw us.” the story said. (You can see this in the video below.)

Bonilla wants the dog back. Short of that, he wants some answers. He says the groomer called to offer him another dog, but still offered no explanation. “They completely disappeared the dog.”

His poor daughter. How can the groomer think she can get away with this? It’s clear that something else has to be done here. I hope by now the law is involved. Imagine dropping your dog off at the groomer’s or doggy daycare and having this happen to you. What would you do, Dogsters? Anyone in the Houston area know this shop?
