I adore animal motifs. Dogs. Cats. Owls. Even squirrels if adorning a fabulous coat, such as this one in Dolce & Gabbana’s fall 2014 collection.
Moving on to what I can afford: In honor of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, I put together a list of my eight favorite dog-motif pieces currently in stores. That’s right: Unlike the clothes being shown through Thursday in NYC, these can be bought and worn right now.
1. Boston Terriers by Anthropologie
More than a few friends have sent me a link to this blouse, as they know my love of the Boston Terrier breed regularly works its way into outfits. $78. (Note: I see BTs, but others spy Frenchies. You decide.)
2. Scotties by Modcloth
Plaid, houndstooth and solid Scotties adorn this adorable dress, with heart and paw shapes completing the bold print. Pair with a black cardigan and wear well into fall. $67.99.
3. Dachshunds by Anika Dali
This lightweight scarf/shawl makes the perfect transitional accessory. It comes in purple or almost-red Dachshunds on an ivory background. $22.95.
4. French Bulldogs by Modcloth
Another find on Modcloth (and expect a few more, as the online retailer understands the appeal of dog motifs), this one allows you to subtly incorporate Frenchies into a work outfit. $34.99.
5. Spot the Dog by Orla Kiely
I like when designers use an animal motif as part of a larger pattern, offering a surprise to those who look closely. This dress comes in amethyst (above) and blueberry (top). $398. (Note: Not in my price range, but go for it if in yours!)
6. Puppy Love by Modcloth
Another transitional blouse, this one features a generic large-breed dog in camel against a navy background. $39.99.
7. Italian Greyhound by Nicola and the Newfoundlander
Layer this comfy sweatshirt screen printed with an Italian Greyhound over anything you like. The eco-friendly artist uses other breeds as well in her work, including BTs, Puggles, Labrador Retrievers, Pit Bulls and dozens more. $36.
8. Corgis by Modcloth
Another bold print, this one features Corgis among other fluffballs. Lovers of the short-legged breed have left glowing reviews of the dress online. $54.99.
