My pupster, Mr. Moxie, is a pretty good sport when it comes to wearing things for the camera. He knows I’m cackling madly behind my smartphone and putting embarrasing snaps of his person (er, dog) on the Internet, but he bears it with grace and form … mainly because costumes mean treats in his head, and I don’t leave him in them for long periods of time.

He was kind enough to pose for me at the San Francisco branch of George (my favorite dog boutique), when I fell in love with the handmade Halloween costumes from Flytes of Fancy and had to see him model a pair of bat wings and the Batdog superhero outfit you see below:

I was an instant fan of the quality of the costume, and the fact that the yellow vest slips on easily with velcro on each side. Moxie didn’t seem to mind at all, especially when Raphael, the nice shop manager, whipped out some lamb treats.

We didn’t end up taking the Batdog gear home, though, because Moxie already got his 2012 costume in the mail in the form of this custom glow-in-the-dark caterpillar by our friend Holly at Spoiled Bratzwear:

It’s made of incredibly soft and lightweight fleece, and it closes comfortably under his barrel chest with velcro. I can’t wait to see him strut around for our parent company’s dog costume contest later today. (It’s too bad we don’t have a black light on hand for the full effect.)

To reward him for his patience, we picked up this hide-a-pumpkin toy from Kyjen while at George (it’s on sale for $7.50 online if you don’t mind your dog ripping a seasonal toy to shreds in the off-season). Kyjen makes some of Moxie’s favorite toys, including the multiple-squeaker gator feautured in this post, which is described as “bubble wrap for dogs.”
