The clever ladies of Remodelista sit across from Team Dogster at our parent company’s HQ, and when their findings for the home fall into pet territory, we like to snatch them up (with permission, of course!) and share them with you.
Their latest post of this nature involves ceramicist Helena Seget and her pet rat, but we’re convinced the idea will translate just as well for dog (and cat, and bird, and ferret) households.
Seget’s Paw Print Project started quite by accident, when her rat scampered across a set of porcelain floor tiles she’d been working on. The results were quite curious, and it may take a pet lover to understand their beauty:
Not only was the design organic and an instant conversation-starter; they set a memory of ceramicist and her pet in stone. Seget would later install the tiles in her bathroom, and found she never felt alone in that room again.
“As someone who knows how significant the relationship can be between a human being and an animal, I find this way of working the most satisfying,” wrote Seget on her website. “And it’s amazing how the animal ‘lives on’ this way, even after it may have died.”
Often, the conversation here at Dogster turns to memorializing our dogs; finding ways to honor their memory once they’re no longer with us. I know I would love some tiles commemorating the way my own dog sat for treats at the edge of the kitchen every night … or immortalizing the little path he creates for himself from the living room to his food bowls.
Seget, who is based in the U.K., works with people and their pets to create these truly personal tiles for their homes. I’ll bet some of our craftier readers could create their own versions at home. Any DIY mavens going to give it a try?
