Everyone is calling Kevin Ware’s broken leg, suffered during Sunday’s NCAA Midwest Regional final, “one of the most gruesome injuries in televised sports history,” and we’re going to just let that ride. We didn’t see it happen, and we can’t bear to watch it on the Internet, even a blurred-out version.
Here’s a graphic from ABC News that gives you enough of an idea as to what went down that horrible night:
Articles about the tragedy aren’t that much less graphic. After the game, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino told reporters, “The bone’s six inches out of his leg, and all he’s yelling is, ‘Win the game. Win the game.’ I’ve not seen that in my life. … Pretty special young man.”
Fortunately, surgery went well, and Ware was out of the hospital on Tuesday. He is expected to be out of the game for a year, but he’ll have some company — a little lump of puppy-shaped company, to be precise.
Yes, Kevin Ware got a puppy — or at least the Ware family did, as Ware wrote when he posted the pic to Instagram.
He wrote: “Welcome Scar to the Ware Family! We named him Scar to represent my struggle, and the ‘scar’ that will be left on my leg after the healing process.”
Here’s another picture Ware posted, writing, “Scar so chill. My boy!”
Don’t worry, we’ll update this post as soon as we find out what kind of puppy that is.
