The Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge kicked off last weekend in Las Vegas. Featuring diving, jumping, and agility competitions, dogs who proved themselves in the field qualified to go nose to nose in the Incredible Dog Challenge Finals in October.
Sponsored by Purina, the Incredible Dog Challenge aims to demonstrate that all dogs are capable of accomplishing incredible feats. Some dogs overcome great obstacles, some dogs are compassionate companions who know how to calm a person in need, and some dogs, like the dogs who competed last weekend, are remarkable athletes who put us humans to shame.
I think I’m in fairly good shape: I try to ride my bike to work three times a week, and I can run at least three miles, no problem. But can I jump up and pluck a Frisbee out of the air with my teeth? No.
Can I wriggle deftly through a series of obstacles? I laugh just considering it.
Can I get serious air lunging after a tennis ball into a pool? Definitely not.
But these dogs sure can.
Paws up for these athlete dogs who remind us that even though we humans have thumbs, there’s a lot of stuff we just can’t do with the same strength and grace as our canine friends.
