With the holiday season upon us and the year winding down, we’re casting a look back at the most notable, newsworthy, and lovable dogs we wrote about on Dogster in 2014. It’s a little tribute we like to call the 12 Dogs of Christmas — and today we revisit a very animated Bull Terrier.
9. Jimmy Choo the Instagram Sensation
Jimmy Choo blossomed into an Instagram star this year when the dog’s illustrator owner, Rafael Mantesso, sketched scenes around photos of Jimmy and uploaded them to his account. With the artist favoring a thick, black-and-white outlined style for his images, the effect made it seem like Jimmy had been magically transported to a cartoon world, one where absurd and surreal adventures ensued. Needless to say, the formula became a hit.
Since we first highlighted Jimmy’s antics back in September, his online profile has skyrocketed: the Instagram account he stars in is on track to hit a whopping 200,000 followers, while a standalone website profiling Jimmy has been set up. (Recent additions to the gallery include Jimmy using a urinal with impressive accuracy and also being shot out of a cannon.)
Fans of Jimmy’s outlandish adventures also can now buy posters of some of the Bull Terrier’s classic japes: Our favorites include the way he hams it up in a mock poster for the ’70s thriller flick Jaws, a scene in which Jimmy dons a flying cape and swoops over a metropolis as if he’s a real-deal super-pup, and one poster that shows him mean-mugging it up with a mohawk and punk-rock attitude.
For 2015, we’d love to see an option for fans to suggest fresh adventures for Jimmy to star in — although, in the meantime, we look forward to the inevitable festive poses that will help us close out 2014 in inimitable Jimmy Choo fashion.
