Florida company Jump Your Bones, Inc., is recalling packages of Roo Bites (Cubes) because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.They were distributed to retail pet food stores nationwide and through pet food retailers and distributors.
As the name indicates, Roo Bites are made from dehydrated kangaroo meat. The company touts the health benefits of the meat on its site. “Kangaroo is one of the healthiest red meats there is. With fat levels of less than two percent, meat doesn’t come any leaner.” The treats are sold for both cats and dogs.
The products affected by this recall have the following UPC code and bag size:
- UPC code: 63633010041
- Size: 2.82 oz., including samples of .32 oz.
No pet or consumer illnesses from this product have been reported to date, and no information was given on how the threat was discovered. According to the FDA, pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
