With the holiday season upon us and the year winding down, we’re casting a look back at the most notable, newsworthy, and lovable dogs we wrote about on Dogster in 2014. It’s a little tribute we like to call the 12 Dogs of Christmas — and today it’s the heart-wrenching turn of a dog from Crescent City in Northern California…

8. London the Two-Legged Pit Bull

When London the Pit Bull showed up at the Del Norte Country Shelter, his list of ailments and injuries made for stomach-churning reading: His front legs and shoulders were not so much broken as completely shattered, and he was littered with various burns and sores. With that, London duly went into surgery and ended up having his front legs amputated.

Even more shocking than the physical state of London were the soon-to-be-discovered circumstances of how he got that way. It turned out that his front legs were deliberately broken by his previous owners — and he was then left in an untreated state. Eventually, those sick humans were arrested, with plea bargains being agreed to and one copping to a three-year period of probation.

By this point, London had been adopted by a new family and treated with the love, care, and attention he deserves. He was kitted out with a set of big wheels to help him stay mobile — although followers of his Facebook page know that he definitely has a propensity to embrace a lifestyle of lounging and napping (and why shouldn’t he?). London also seems to have struck up a close bond with the two other dogs he lives with, an English Springer Spaniel named Maximus and another Pit Bull called Delilah, and can be caught on camera snuggling up to them.

Beyond the deserved comforts of his new lifestyle, London has also developed into something of a skilled leftovers hunter. A recent conquest involved a bowl of yogurt. Let’s hope he gets to chow down on some Christmas dinner leftovers come the 25th.
