For the past four years, pet grooming company Wahl has teamed up with GreaterGood.org to donate its all-natural pet-grooming products to shelters in an effort to help some of the more than eight-million dogs who come into the system every year. For the dogs who arrive in horrible shape, the products are invaluable, allowing staff to make the dogs look the best they can to find a new family.

“When it comes to pet adoption, a first impression is crucial in determining if an animal will find a family,” says Shay Moeller, pet product manager for Wahl. “By providing pet shelters with the grooming supplies they need, we can demonstrate that the same animals often perceived to be ‘damaged goods’ are actually healthy, fun-loving pets deserving of a new home.”

So far, the products have helped shelters clean up more than 50,000 dogs — and hundreds of the amazing transformations have been compiled into Wahl’s Dirty Dogs Before & After Gallery.

Now, the company is launching its fourth annual Dirty Dogs Contest, with 10 of the most dramatic transformations up for public vote to select three winners. And it’s not a meaningless title: The shelters or rescue groups affiliated with these transformations will receive cash — first place gets $5,000, second place $2,000, and third $1,000.
