Meet Bonsai, Who Is Only Half a Bulldog But Full of Love

His Facebook page is called Bonsai: Half a Bulldog, Twice the Love, and it’s dead accurate: This little English Bulldog was born as a “walrus puppy,” with just half of his spine, no pelvis, and malformed rear legs. Those legs are expected to be amputated in a few weeks, according to the group who saved him, Friends of Emma, who are behind the rescue and rehabilitation of countless dogs who’ve suffered similar fates as Bonsai, most notably Emma the Cleft Palate Chihuahua.

According to Friends of Emma, Bonsai was surrendered from a first-time breeder who had bought the mother dog from a breeder in Arkansas in business for six years. After getting the dog to the vet and getting a full workup of Bonsai’s afflictions, the rescue group asked that “siblings and parents of this puppy not be bred,” according to Elizabeth Hart of Friends of Emma. The original breeder refused, even “became very defensive (to the point of becoming threatening),” Hart said. “Both she and the owner of the mother dog ceased all contact with me whatsoever.”

We’ll have a more details on Bonsai’s past and recovery (and hopeful adoption!) very soon, but enjoy this photo post for the time being of his journey with Friends of Emma, and make sure to head over to the Bonsai: Half a Bulldog, Twice the Love Facebook page, where we got these photos, to keep up with the brave dog.
