The mysterious tweet arrived Tuesday afternoon: “Today is the 2nd worst day of my life,” Miley Cyrus wrote to her 17 million followers on Twitter. Later that night, she explained why. “I don’t wanna say it because I don’t want it to be real… But my precious baby Floyd has passed away. I am broken.”
Floyd was Miley’s Alaskan Klee Kai; he apparently died while Miley was away on her Bangerz tour. We don’t know the cause of death, and Miley didn’t reveal it. She did, however, turn to Twitter to express her grief, remembering her dog and posting photos.
“I know I don’t mean it but I wish he would’ve taken me with him this is unbearable,” she wrote. “What am I gonna do without him?”
“I am miserable,” she tweeted last night. Then, this morning: “I miss him so much.”
This outpouring of grief is not surprising, as Miley is a noted dog lover with many rescue dogs, which we’ve written about before. She’s taking solace in her other dogs, among them Bean, a Chihuahua mix; Mary Jane, a black and white Pit Bull mix; and Happy, a Rottweiler–Beagle mix.
She’s also been through this tragdey once before — in 2012, her Yorkshire Terrier, Lila, was killed by ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth’s English Bulldog, Ziggy.
“For everyone asking… I have never been so hurt in my life,” she tweeted at the time. “My heart has never been so broken….. Lila my sweet baby girl has passed away.”
Whatever you might think of the singer and her antics on stage, her grief is real. Her tweeting about Floyd is continuing through the day.
“What you don’t understand is he’s not in a better place,” she posted this morning. “The best place he could be was with me… where he was loved more than anything.”
We’ll update this post as we learn more.
