As 2014 closes, we have one last dispatch from Miley Cyrus on the loss of her dog earlier in the year. You’ll remember how she took to Twitter after her Alaskan Klee Kai, Floyd, died, then gave away the replacement puppy from her mom, and then months later unveiled her new dog, Emu. She also held her tongue when a daft UK writer penned a whole column about not being sad when other people’s pets die. “I just can’t bring myself to be sad when people’s pets die,” she wrote, again and again and again.

Somewhere along the way Miley also did this:

Miley’s latest dispatch came from the stage this week at the Art Basel show in Miami, where Miley was the premiere attraction at Jeffrey Deitch and V magazine’s exclusive party at Raleigh Hotel in South Beach, always known as the music show to catch at the art show. Many were invited — too many, according to the story in Vulture, leading to VIP squabbles in the line — but Miley showed up right on time, looking very elegant in silver pasties, silver tights, a tinsel wig, and a unitard. She looked like this:

Before she got down to music-making, however, she took a moment to remember Floyd, and then sang a song about losing a cat.

“This is f**king fun,” she said to the crowd, according to Vulture. “[2014] just felt like nothing meant anything and I wasn’t making music I wanted to anymore, so it took a really s**tty thing to happen to me of losing my dog to get my perspective again. Once I did, I could make art again. A dog dying is a really s**tty f**king thing. My friend, she lost her cat. I had these crazy dreams about her cat, who told me what I was supposed to say to her to get her through, so I wrote this song, called ‘The Twinkle Song.’”

How does that song go? Miley cleared her throat. “Give me five seconds to mentally prepare for this,” she said. Five seconds later, she sang:

“I had a dream that you were dying / I had a dream I didn’t give a f**k / but I gave a f**k / I miss you so bad / I think I might die / I had a dream/ what did it mean / I just want to scream.”

Then she said something about the song being “a bit of a f**king downer,” and launched into her set of covers, joined by Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, her surprising new best friend of the past year.
