On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys-Arizona Cardinals football game got a little surreal with a dog descending from the heavens before the opening kickoff.
OK, he was a military dog strapped to his handler, a Navy Seal, and they rappelled from the AT&T Stadium scoreboard, in Arlington, Texas, but still — a rappelling dog. What the heck is going on with football?
After landing and securing the 10-yard line, the pair marched to midfield to maintain a security perimeter for the coin toss. Then they disappeared from view for the remainder of the game, though doubtless they were there, perched high on a catwalk, maybe hanging under a batch of spotlights, ready to drop at the first sign of trouble or if the Cardinals got too carried away with scoring touchdowns.
As it was, Arizona scored four, winning the game; one more and fire would’ve rained down from above.
Believe it.
Obviously, this dog is trained in rappelling down stuff, and while rappelling into a football game is totally frivolous and puts the both of them at unnecessary risk, it is in their line of work — these dogs rappel down buildings and out of helicopters, after all.
