Mimi the Maltese was loved in a home, until she got pregnant and the owners abandoned her just a few days before she was set to give birth. Mimi was terrified and seemed to worry about life and the future for her unborn puppies. But Mimi proved to be a true survivor. She did not give up hope for herself and her litter.
Dogs Without Borders rescued Mimi from the shelter, so she could be comfortable in a home while she was in labor. Brandie fostered Mimi, and it took a little bit of adjustment, because Mimi was so scared after being abandoned. Mimi hid under beds and wouldn’t come out for days, but with a little love and encouragement, Mimi began to trust again.
Just a few days after being pulled from the shelter, Mimi gave birth to six puppies. All six survived, and Mimi was immediately a fantastic mother to her six new ones.
Mimi and Brandie formed a special bond because Brandie fostered her in her time of need and helped Mimi take care of her puppies. Mimi now loves belly rubs, going on long walks, and enjoys all the cute clips and bows in her hair, which help keep it out of her face.
Mimi is resilient, not just because she was strong for herself, she was strong for her six unborn puppies. All of Mimi’s six pups found forever homes, and soon Mimi found her own forever home. Lacey fell in love with Mimi, now named Barley, and adores her. Lacey believes she has adopted the best dog in the world, and after surviving being dumped, mothering six puppies and bringing joy in a new home, it’s hard to argue with that.
