Cameras you can mount on your body are all the rage. Surfers film themselves surfing, skiers film themselves skiing, dogs film themselves chasing sticks, chefs film themselves eating hambur — wait, dogs film themselves chasing sticks?
Indeed. Last April, Sony released the named-by-committee AKA-DM1, a harness to attach the Sony Action Cam to a dog, filling a void in market that existed only in the minds of electronics PR men drifting off to sleep after consuming cold medicine. Alas, it was only available in Japan, leading to a slew of “only available in Japan” stories from tech publications, who just love it when electronics are only available in Japan.
Now, the AKA-DM1 appears to be available in the U.S. We found it on the Sony site, B&H Photo-Video-Audio, Adorama Camera, and a few other sites.
For roughly $45, you get a harness that fits medium to large dogs (heavier than 33 pounds) and canine waists measuring 19.6 to 31.5 inches. According to Sony, it will allow you to capture “heartwarming point of view footage from your pooch.”
Reviews are rare on the AKA-DM1, but we did find a good one from YouTube user MomoTaro Papa, who writes, “I like this AKA-DM1. My dog does not hate putting it on at all. I think that this is the most important.”
MomoTaro Papa also included a rather long video of footage from one of his walks with his dog around the Japanese countryside. If you get one of these, this is the sort of footage you can expect of your own walks.
How gripping you consider that video says a lot about whether you should get one of these. Some might even argue that your dog’s point of view on a walk is not something you even need to document.
Of course, who knows what exciting things ambitious dog owners will come up with. I can imagine some bold person mounting the camera backward and capturing the dog’s rear during their walk. You see, so many possibilities.
In any case, the AKA-DM1 fits right in with the slew of gizmos we’re seeing coming out for dogs, including the iFetch Automatic Ball Launcher, the Swifto dog-walking service, the Whistle fitness tracker, and the Wandant pedometer.
I’d say it fits at the bottom. What do you think?

What you composed was very reasonable. However, what about this? suppose you added a little content? I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your blog, however suppose you added a post title that grabbed people’s attention? I mean BLOG_TITLE is a little plain. You could look at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create news headlines to grab people interested. You might try adding a video or a picture or two to get readers interested about what you’ve got to say. In my opinion, it might bring your posts a little bit more interesting.|
