Last night, the Connecticut Huskies defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 60-54 to take all the marbles. We could have told you that result days ago, weeks ago. Dogs vs. cats, you see. There was no question, even in men’s college basketball. We had the Huskies topping our NCAA March Madness bracket from day one [Editor’s note: Stop it], and it was there because of this:

And this:

And this:

And this:

The Kentucky Wildcats, by point of comparison, had this:

Actually, it had this:

Which, OK, that’s a decent-looking mascot.

Now, some in the so-called zoological realms might go so far as to say a wildcat vs. Husky is a fair fight, but that depends on the wildcat. Not all wildcats can take a well-built Husky. Have you seen a serval? Let’s imagine for argument’s sake that Kentucky’s wildcat is a serval. No way is a serval, headband or no, going to beat a Husky.

For those coming here for sport’s news, we apologize. The Huskies really won the game because of basketball whatnot like this, courtesy of SI.com:

With guards Napier and Ryan Boatright leading the way, the Huskies jumped out to a 30-15 lead, making it the fourth straight game that Kentucky trailed by at least nine points in the first half. Unlike in thrilling wins over Louisville, Michigan and Wisconsin to reach the final, the Wildcats were never able to claw their way in front. They cut UConn’s lead to four at halftime and were within one at 35-34 on a three by Aaron Harrison ― whose triples in the final seconds proved to be the game-winners in their three most recent wins ― but Boatright answered with a jumper to push …

And so on and so forth, until the Husky came through and tore everyone up.
