You know how cat people are always going on about how superior cats are, because they do things like sleep for 23 hours and don’t let anybody touch them?
For them, being aloof is a virtue. If you have a pet who will totally ignore you for whole weeks, won’t ever appear to guests, and will eat only one brand of cat food, it’s somehow a win.
Well, everyone is getting a little sick of that. Even the cats. Well, at least one cat is, and he’s our hero of the day. Hell, he’s our hero of the year. He’s an honorary dog, and we refuse to put the whole thing down to special effects.
He is the cat in a commercial for O2, a mobile phone service company in Europe.
You take what you can get.
The commercial is hilarious. A cat, acting all bored and smug and indifferent (a supreme specimen, basically; why doesn’t he have a Facebook fan page?), suddenly sees the light and starts acting like a dog. Starts having fun, in short — running around and chasing stuff and digging and jumping and not just changing position and sleeping for another four hours.
The message is: Dogs are better. Also: Be More Dog, which is the advertising campaign’s tagline. We’ll take it. Good work, European phone company.
