A Oregon judge ruled this week that Obie the famous overweight Dachshund will stay with foster mom Nora Vanatta — for now.

KATU.com reports that the case brought by Oregon Dachshund Rescue owner Jenell Rangan against Vanatta will move to “full litigation,” with arbitration coming first and a possible trial after that to determine ownership of Obie. The judge’s ruling Monday came at a hearing requested by Rangan.

Said Vanatta on the Facebook page dedicated to Obie’s weight-loss journey: “Obie gets to stay with me for now but looks like the battle will continue. Thank you for your support. Obie is happy and chewing on his bone.”

Obie at one time weighed 77 pounds. Vanatta agreed to take him in a foster capacity to help him lose weight. (The most recent Facebook update says Obie is approaching 61 pounds.) The two have appeared on multiple talk shows and websites, with the goal of inspiring humans to help their dogs — and even themselves — lose weight.
