Last Wednesday (Aug. 27) Mars Petcare US announced a recall of 22 bags of Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food products due to the presence of a “foreign material.”
This week, however, the company expanded the recall. In addition to the 22 15-pound bags of Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food that were shipped to 12 Dollar General stores in Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana, the recall now includes 55-pound bags sold in Sam’s Club in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
That foreign material is small metal fragments, which might have gotten into the food during a production mishap — the company isn’t quite sure. It has shut down the production line in that facility to investigate.
Mars says the metal is not embedded in the food, but is loose in the bags, and it says it “may present a risk if consumed.”
