This week, Ace and I scoured the Internet to bring you a few of the most-promising crowdfunding campaigns for new dog products. Websites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter help people with a cool idea for a new product raise money to help them create that product.
Here’s how it works: If individual supporters pledge enough money by the end of the campaign to reach the campaign’s target goal, then the campaign organizers get that money. However, if they fall short of their goal, they get nothing. Supporters receive perks if the campaign gets funded. Depending upon how much you pledge, perks may include branded T-shirts or stickers, the future product itself, or something outrageous and fun, all to thank you for helping bring a new product to the market.

1. Poucheze: A hoodie harness for small dogs
If your dog weighs 20 pounds or less, Poucheze may be the carrier for you. Poucheze is a pouch that allows you to carry your small dog on your chest. The pouch can be worn by itself, but for added stability, comfort, and snuggles, it clips into a special hooded human sweatshirt. The Poucheze looks perfect for socializing young puppies who haven’t yet had all their immunizations, or older small dogs with impaired mobility.
Poucheze is poised to reach their goal of $25,000 in pledges by July 29, but they won’t be able to do it without additional support. Luckily, a pledge of $25 gets you the Poucheze pouch (navy, gray, or pink), and a pledge of $50 earns the pouch and hoodie (navy, gray, or pink).
2. Kibblr: An app to fight dog obesity
Varsity Pets is hoping to raise their goal of $35,000 by July 10 to fund the production of an app and a self-help book to help dogs get fit. The mobile app, Kibblr, helps dog owners choose appropriate food portions. After entering some information about your dog and choosing her commercial dog food from a database, you can learn more about the nutritional content of your dog’s food, track your dog’s weight loss, and access facts about dog nutrition. Pledge $10 to get the Kibblr app.
In addition to Kibblr, Varsity Pets is hoping to fund the creation of Fit Dogs Live Forever. This book promises to be a resource for dog owners seeking information about canine fitness and nutrition. Make a pledge of $15 and get an electronic version of the book plus the Kibblr app, or pledge $25 for a hardcover book plus app.
3. The Pet Pita: A gentle pet restraint
Pet parents have to do all sorts of challenging things to keep their little guys healthy, including administering medications and grooming. The Pet Pita is a simple device to help you manage your pup safely and in comfort. Made in the USA of canvas and fleece, the Pet Pita cradles dogs up to 35 pounds. Nail trimming, brushing, administering medications like flea drops, and transporting dogs with mobility limitations are some of the possible uses for the Pet Pita.
