This is a story about second chances. The shelters in Southern California are overflowing with Chihuahuas and Pit Bulls. You need only to look and you’ll see Chihuahuas of many shapes and sizes. When Grandpa was turned in as a stray at 10 years old, the chances of him finding a home were slim. But when it comes to adoption, even older guys get a second chance at a good life sometimes.

Grandpa was aptly named because of his age. But even at his age, he still has the spunk and energy of a puppy. Unfortunately, in the pet world he is considered too old to be adoptable. While at the shelter, he spent most of his time waiting. He was red listed for euthanasia and by a miracle was pulled by the Lange Foundation.

The Lange Foundation, a rescue based in Los Angeles, promised to adopt out Grandpa, not just to any home, but to the right home. Grandpa was happier, livelier, and healthier under their care. He became a staff favorite and even hung out around the office with them. Despite all their efforts to get Grandpa adopted, no one took interest.

Grandpa waited for more than a year to find the right home.

Finally, one day, Michael went to visit the Lange Foundation and fell in love instantly. He adopted Grandpa and renamed him George. To Michael, George wasn’t old. He saw George as a young, energetic puppy with so much more life to give.

Today, George has a new home and a new life. He is happier and acts younger than ever with his forever family. George is proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
