Pop Singer’s Dog Drowns In Garden Swimming Pool

The American pop singer, Pink, is mourning the loss of her Bulldog after he drowned in the swimming pool at the home of the singer and her partner.

The Bulldog, named Elvis and given to Pink by friend Lisa-Marie Presley was found floating on the surface after the singer had left the house for about an hour.

Pink, real name Alecia Moore, attempted to revive the dog, but was unsuccessful.

It is estimated that more dogs drown in home swimming pools than people, despite dogs being naturally better swimmers. It is understood that Elvis was a capable swimmer and enjoyed going in the pool.

Human fatalities linked to home swimming pools and ponds make up 7% of all drownings in the UK.

Safety Tips For Dog Owners With Swimming Pools.

Never leave your dog unattended in or near the pool or pond, regardless of whether he is a strong swimmer. Many dogs love swimming and are strong in the water, but it is always a risk to leave them alone in the water.

If you have an indoor pool, ensure your dog cannot access it without your supervision. Indoor pools are warmer than outdoor ones and dogs can overheat if the enter the pool and begin to panic.

If building a garden pond, ensure the sides are not too steep that your dog will be unable to climb out should he enter the pool.

Pool covers can prove a hindrance if a dog falls or jumps in. Becoming trapped under the heavy cover reduces the chance of a dog getting out of the pool, whilst unlike with people, it does not reduce the chance of a dog getting into the pool
