We’re sisters and best friends who have always shared a passion for dogs and fashion. We grew up with dogs: Smokey the black Labrador and Lucky the Collie. They were our best friends and we loved them so much, but they unfortunately passed away while we were in college. Neither of us has dogs right now because we live in tiny apartments: Scarlett in Manhattan, and Lee Anne in Austin. We just don’t think it would be fair to the dogs to keep them in such small space while we work most of the day.
One day we were Skypeing and looking at street style blogs together online. We got to talking about dogs, and a light bulb went off: why not make a fashion blog for dogs? We came up with a cute and simple name — Street Style Dogs — and got to work right away.
Our stepdad, Bruce, is a web developer, so we asked him to create our website for us. The website launched with a few photos from other websites of stylish dogs. This lasted only a few days before people from all over the world began sending us photos of their stylish pups.
We’ve been so excited to get all of the adorable and sometimes hilarious photos. As we started posting more and more photos, a little community built up around our site. People started liking and sharing our photos. They were laughing and smiling because of the photos we were uploading. We knew we were on to something wonderful!
We have added a few fun features to our site, like monthly contests sponsored by a dog clothing company who supplies prizes for the pup who gets the most votes. We have had a Football Furbaby Contest, a Halloween Costume Contest, a Labor Day Photo Contest, and recently ended the Sweater Weather Contest.
We also added our Style Crush of the Week, which is where we feature the story of a lucky dog on our website for one week. So far we have had Manny, the famous Frenchie, and Surf Dog Ricochet, the therapy dog who surfs with special needs children.
We truly feel like dogs are part of the family, and that style isn’t just for humans. There are a lot of diva pups out there, and we can’t wait to meet all of you and share your style with the world. After all, every dog deserves a day of fame. We now feel so much joy just receiving adorable dog photos every day. Until we both can move to bigger apartments and have our own dogs, we will enjoy the world’s diva pups that are sent to our site.
And of course we’d love to see photos of your dogs — it’s really easy to submit them through our site. Please follow us on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter.
