Pets are a great source of comfort, and it helps to have a cute, fuzzy friend to cuddle, especially on the set of an emotional-roller coaster show like This Is Us.
Enter Parker Bates’ (who plays a young Kevin Pearson, son of Rebecca and Jack Pearson on the show) dog, Archie Bell Bates, who seems too cute to be real. But Archie is a very real Poodle mix, who Parker tells us doesn’t shed and will grow to be about 25 to 30 pounds.
Archie Behind the Scenes — and in Front of the Camera

Although Archie is just a puppy, she’s already spent some time on the This Is Us set. “She loves everyone on set, but I think she is especially fond of Chrissy Metz [who plays Kate Pearson],” Parker says. “Her favorite spot on set is the makeup trailer with Ms. Zoe or the ADR studio where we do voice-over work. She likes watching through the glass!”
And that’s only the start of Archie’s life behind the scenes. According to Parker, Archie has been spending a lot of time with him on the set of his upcoming movie, Pink Jacket.
“I have some major emotional scenes,” Parker tells us. “In between takes, I get to help in video village because I’m the executive producer on the project. She gets to come along with me and watch the monitors. Snuggles and kisses totally calm me down and help me get ready for the next scene! And, during break time, everyone loves playing fetch with her!”
Archie also just booked her own role in front of the camera. She’s playing Tim in a film called Magic Max.
What’s Next on This Is Us?
So, can we expect to see Archie in the third season of This Is Us? Parker wouldn’t rule it out. “Maybe Audio (Kate and Toby’s dog on the show) needs a buddy next season,” he says. “You never know!”
When asked if there were any hints about This Is Us next season, Parker says: “It’s top secret, but there will definitely be more tears, so stock up on those tissues! And, I do know you will see a lot more of Jack, so don’t worry!”
