Did you watch the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in London last week? Of course you did! And like the rest of us, did you suddenly forget what you were watching when the James Bond and Queen Elizabeth segment appeared because OH MY DOG, CORGIS?! Yup, those were our thoughts exactly.

The opening ceremony was a perfect mix of pomp and circumstance with a touch of silly, dry British humor. In addition to a hilarious Mr. Bean rendition of “Chariots of Fire,” the Queen herself made an appearance in a rather surprising way! Escorted by British icon and sex symbol James Bond (as portrayed by Daniel Craig), Queen Elizabeth II become a very unlikely Bond girl when she got into a helicopter with Mr. 007 and flew to the Olympics opening ceremony while surveying some of England’s finest icons (including an animated Churchill statue — natch). Upon arriving at the Olympic Stadium, the queen did the unexpected and made her entrance … via parachute. Well, her stunt double did, at least. Bravo to the Brits for a classy sense of humor!

But you know who we were thinking of long after the torch was lit and long after the awe-inspiring display of international athletes? The royal CORGIS! It’s an Internet fact that Corgis are probably the cutest dogs on Earth — nay, the Universe — so the moment they appeared, whimpering and cocking their heads and rolling around on the carpet, we instantly declared the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony the best ever. Because CORGIS!
