He survived against all odds, he bonds in a heartbeat, and he will soon be looking for a forever home.
Meet Trooper, a trouper if ever there was one. The dog was found starving in an Ohio state park with a terrible gunshot wound to a front leg. The paw was dangling, and in shreds, and he was undoubtedly in extreme pain. (You can see photos of him pre-amputation, if you really want to get mad. They’re not for the sensitive, so don’t click unless you can handle it.)
Danyel Bageant, a Fayette County Humane agent, told 10TV that Trooper may have been walking around for weeks after someone shot him.
He was so pitiful, Bageant said. His little eyes looked so sad, and we knew we had to save his life. (His eyes still look so sad, don’t they?)
He’s doing well as a new tripod, and is apparently a dear, forgiving dog. “Trooper is such a sweet, lovable guy who bonds very quickly with anyone who gives him a cuddle,” according to the Fayette County Humane Society website.
Trooper is recuperating in a foster home. When he is well enough, he will be available for adoption. Anyone interested in adopting Trooper (or other animals in the area) should visit the Fayette County Humane Society website.

I haven’t seen this story in almost 10 years. Yes, we did adopt Trooper and he is living his best life. He can run, jump (even into my wife’s cad through the window) and even swim happily. He hasn’t had nightmares in five years and he is absolutely and unconditionally loved. We drove 10 hours in an ice storm to adopt him and would donuts all again.
