Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a very powerful diagnostic tool. However, even the most advanced MRI machines take a bit of time to scan. Patients undergoing MRIs are highly prone to claustrophobia. The noise and tight quarters (coupled with concerns for one’s health) make MRIs quite stressful for many individuals. The only realistic solution to this matter in veterinary medicine is to anesthetize the patient. In human medicine, however, there appears to be a different option: relax with a therapy dog for 15 minutes before the procedure.
