Yesterday, we talked about the importance of allowing our dogs to “be dogs” and do things that are intrinsically rewarding to them.
Today, I figured I’d share with you a song about things dogs do/like, intended to be sung to the tune of “These are a few of my favorite things.”
Marking on hydrants and jumping on guests,
Digging and chewing and making a mess,
Retrieving feathery birds on the wing,
These are a few of my favorite things
Chasing squirrels, playing with toys, rolling in dead things,
Fetching balls, turkey calls, barking at doorbell rings,
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings,
These are a few of my favorite things!
Creeks with clean water and swimming and splashing,
Practicing wait so I dont go door dashing,
Venison, chicken, rabbit, and whiting,
These are a few of my favorite things!
When the cat bolts,
When the parrot molts,
When I’m feeling sad,
I simply remember the leg that I humped,
and then I don’t feel, so bad!
Dead things and deer poop and chasing the kitten,
Tug games and kissy face – my humans are smitten,
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings,
These are a few of my favorite things!
